Investment Management Philosophy at
Bull Financial

"Growth doesn't have to come from increased risk. Instead, it can be achieved by minimizing market downturns while still capturing the upside."

We understand the significant time, money, and stress involved in recovering from major market declines. Our focus is on mitigating downside risk while pursuing long-term growth across full market cycles. We emphasize investment management because effective returns combined with tax planning lead to better financial planning.

Our Investment Approach

Bull Financial helps clients achieve successful asset management through ETF and mutual fund portfolios that are actively managed and not limited to static asset classes. We utilize insights from selected analysts and money managers.

Here's an overview of our process:

Data Gathering and Analysis: We begin by collecting financial data, including market trends, economic indicators, and historical price movements.

Algorithmic Frameworks: We consider algorithms to identify patterns and signals that could indicate potential market movements.

Risk Management: Our primary goal is to reduce downside risk through active diversification and dynamic asset allocation adjustments based on risk assessments. Our portfolios can take a cash position during downturns, offering protection where traditional asset-allocated portfolios may struggle.

Market Timing: Our process provides guidance on when to enter or exit the market, helping make timely decisions to maximize returns and avoid losses.

“It’s not if the market will turn. It’s when.”
-Vance Howard
Howard Capital Management

Investment Selection: We use relative strength formulas to determine which asset classes are best suited for different periods.

“Diversification is protection against ignorance. It makes little sense if you know what you are doing.”
-Warren Buffet

Flexibility: Our management process adapts to changing market conditions, ensuring our strategies remain effective across various market cycles.

Rational Decision-Making: We use data-driven insights to minimize emotional influences on investment decisions, focusing on intermediate and long-term objectives rather than short-term market fluctuations.

“When it comes to investment management, we do not rely on precise, stagnant percentages for allocating assets. We do not believe that any stand-alone systems are best. We do not believe that anyone or group of algorithms should be totally relied upon. We believe we have the best opportunity to put the odds in our favor by virtue of knowledge and experience.”

Our investment management philosophy aims to provide a structured and disciplined approach to investing, with dual objectives of capital protection and sustainable growth.
As Barry Barnette emphasizes, we don't rely solely on fixed asset allocation percentages or any single system. Instead, we believe that combining knowledge and experience offers the best opportunity to succeed in investment management.

According to Dalbar’s annual study, quantitative analysis of investor behavior (QAIB), emotional behavior resulted in underperformance due to the imprudent decisions investors made when buying, selling or altering investments over short- and long- term time frames. This study calculated the average equity investor underperformed major market indices such as the S&P 500 index, anywhere from 3.96% to 9.46% annually over every rolling 20-year period since 1994.

Overall, Bull Financial’s investment management philosophy strives to offer a structured and disciplined approach to investing, with the dual objectives of capital protection and sustainable growth.
